I lost my sight and found my love
a sweetheart, I can’t say, or know
his kiss is but a breath within
cooling the bleakness I am in

Songs hang still and mute as truth
need shakes the old boughs, tumbling fruit
whispering green - the silent thorn is God’s -
blood-ripened in thickets of human words

But I can’t tell you what love is like
alone and naked in life’s embrace
the proofs out-writ in wisdom’s juice
would stain my presence in its face

I lost my sight and found my love
a sweetheart, I can’t say, or know
the kiss is trust, a breath within
warming the darkness I am in
